Being a black girl who can’t dance isn’t easy. Whether you’re clapping offbeat in church or taking two years to learn “Crank Dat Soulja Boi,” dancing is just another thing to add to the list of stereotypical expectations you’re supposed to meet…but don’t. Sister, you’re not alone, because these are just some of the things that black girls who can’t dance know to be true:

1. Avoiding dancing in public like it’s the plague

Whether it’s a club or the family barbeque, dancing in public is a strong no. Can’t we have a quiet movie night instead?

2. Never being up to date on the latest dance crazes

These new dance crazes pop up like wildfire and each more complicated than the last. Whipping what? Ju ju on the what? Where the f*ck is the Milly Rock? Big chance is that if it isn’t the Electric Slide, you probably don’t know what it is.

3. The two-step is your best friend

It’s basically moving side to side…with style.  And it works for ALL SONGS! From Fetty Wap to Taylor Swift, the two-step is a lifesaver.

4. Getting these kind of comments

“What do you mean you can’t dance…but you’re black?” or “Ha ha, then I’m blacker than you.” As if your blackness is somehow tied in your ability to C walk… Lol, bye.

5. You have a signature move

You may not dance very well overall, but there is one dance you do incredibly well. You won’t hesitate to bust it out every single chance you get.

6. Getting serious bouts of dance envy

Seeing a person being able to “Hit Dem Folks” without hitting demselves in the face can’t help but give you a little twinge of jealousy.

7. All of the dance-related injuries

Sometimes after getting a little cocky on the dance floor, you feel like you can move onto more advanced dance moves. The little voice in the back of your mind goes “girl, don’t do it.” But you do anyway, resulting with bruises, bruises and more bruises.

8.  But you dance anyway
