8 Perks That Come With Being the Judgmental Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Being judgmental is a natural thing; heck being judgmental is even a profession, like being a judge or a video gamer that rates the quality of games. No matter what way you choose to twist it, judgment in inevitable, but don’t be so down on yourselves, because being judgmental has its perks and here are just a few.

1.     Honesty.

You rarely lie because you can’t help but tell the truth to someone’s face. None of your friends ever have to worry about how you feel because it’s either on your face, in your tone of voice or in your choice of words.

2.     Clear Opinion.

Your friends never have to ask your opinion on an outfit, their shoes or newest hairstyle, because you can’t help but put your two cents in on what’s flattering for someone else’s body shape or anything else for that matter.  It may not being exactly what your friend’s want to hear, but instead what they need to hear.

3.     You always have something to say.

You don’t sugar coat anything, and you have an answer for pretty much every question you can imagine. Your answers are always clear and to the point, and your friends can appreciate that about you.

4.     Your communication skills are on point.

You just don’t see the point in arguing, so you always handle situations that involve gossip with grace by tactfully addressing the person directly whose supposedly spreading rumors, way before things can get out of hand.

5.     You don’t hold back.

If something is rubbing you the wrong way you immediately address the issue and you don’t let things build up. Granted you don’t always address issues in the right place and at the right time, but at least the issues do get handled.

.6.     There’s no grey area with what you say.

There is no grey area with someone who is judgmental because more often than not their opinions are straight forward and leave no room for misinterpretation.

7.     You have the power to either make someone cry or extremely happy.

It’s weird to have the power to bring tears or joy, but one wrong word and you can either make someone’s world crumble or make their day just that much better. You take this role extremely seriously and use your gift of words carefully in hopes of not offending everyone you know, but this is always a work in progress.

8.     You’re outgoing.

People are drawn to you because you don’t mind putting yourself out there.  You’re extremely secure with who you are despite popular belief because you take any criticism constructively.  Many of your friendships are based on a mutual understanding that you will continue to let your friend know what he/she can do better and you expect the same criticism from them as well.
