The weather in Virginia can be very unpredictable, which makes it even harder to decide on an outfit for the day. As a student, having to change my outfit throughout the day to account for the drastic change in weather usually happens. Here are some staple pieces to have for the range of climates throughout the spring semester.

Add warm accessories

Incorporating warmer accessories into your outfit can help you stay warm and stylish for class. The best part about accessories is you can take them off throughout the day, which avoids having to change into a whole new outfit. These accessories can include leg warmers, ear muffs and scarves.

Experiment with matching sets

A matching set is easy to put together and will always be the more comfy option in your wardrobe. There is a range of colors to choose from in matching sets, so the possibilities are endless. Also, you can easily get dressed in these before class, which gives you more time to sleep in beforehand.

Invest in tights

Tights are great for layering in cold weather. They also work with shorter skirts when the weather is warmer in the spring semester. Experimenting with different designs on tights is always fun — this can include butterflies, stripes or polka dots.

Long skirts are a necessity

Whether they’re cotton, denim or satin, maxi skirts work well with the wacky spring weather. They can be paired with boots or sneakers depending on the desired vibe. Either way, it’s super cute!

Find your perfect pair of jeans

The search for the perfect pair of jeans can take a while, but at the end of the day, it’s worth it. Once they’re found, matching them with different tops and sweaters will come easy. This will make the potential need of changing outfits easier to do.

Buy longer tops rather than crop tops

There has been a shift in trends in 2023 — crop tops are out and longer tops are in. Especially in warmer weather, it’s more comfortable to wear tops that cover your entire stomach. “Longer tops” are basic, long-sleeved tops that match with multiple kinds of bottoms such as jeans, cargos and skirts. You can always find them at your local store at a decent price.

Personally, I am still trying to find my own personal style. Deciding what’s comfortable for you is the most important thing in fashion. It may take trial and error, but these tips will help you decide what’s best in this ever-changing Virginia weather.
