5 Ways to Spend Spring Break in Richmond

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

Stuck in Richmond for spring break? No worries! There is actually so much to do around our little city when the weather is warm. Try these activities and you’ll soon forget that you aren’t laying on a beach somewhere in Florida.

Visit Maymont

Visit Maymont and check out all it has to offer. Maymont has 100 acres open for the public to enjoy. It even has its own nature wildlife exhibit where you can see bison, black bears, bobcats and many more exciting animals. Maybe bring a picnic with you and some friends and enjoy lunch in one of the many gardens Maymont has to offer like the Italian Garden and the Japanese Garden! This amazing scenery is at its best in the springtime.

Explore Carytown

Spring is the best time to visit this unique and quirky part of Richmond. There is so much to do in Carytown! Go eat at one of the many delicious restaurants like The Galaxy Diner, The Daily Bar and Grill, or The Can Can. Shop (or window shop) at the adorable boutiques Carytown has to offer. Or even catch a movie at the historic Byrd Theatre for only $2!

Relax by the James River

Richmond’s weather is at its best in the spring. One of the best places to enjoy the weather is at our very own river, the James. Who cares if you’re not wearing your new bikini on a beach somewhere? The beautiful James River will make you forget all about that. Stop by the different locations along the river like Belle Isle and Pony Pasture to experience all it as to offer!

Walk around Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens

Check out the beautiful gardens Lewis Ginter has to offer! Take in the different aromas of all the flowers and plants that live in this garden. The beautiful scenery will take your breath away on any spring day in Richmond!

Take a day trip

The good thing about Richmond’s location is that it is close to everything! If you’re sick of the city life, drive about two hours east to Virginia Beach! You can stay for a day and enjoy the beach without spending money on a hotel. If you’re looking for another city experience or wanting to learn more about American history, drive two hours north and you’ll be in Washington DC! You can have another day trip here and enjoy the National Mall and everything our nation’s capital has to offer.

So stop moping around because you won’t be spending your spring break partying on a beach in Florida. There is so much to do right outside your door!
