I love baking.

People love baked goods.

Main lesson since coming to Vanderbilt- people love people who feed them.
Therefore, I’ve discovered, most people who love me do so because I’ve baked for them.

Yes, I have just divulged one of my biggest tricks to making friends and getting guys. The secret’s out- but only because I want you readers to do something with it.

Valentine’s Day, one of the most controversial holidays within the calendar year, is rapidly approaching. And if you’re trying to do something special for your boyfriend, your “casual hookup,” or that hot guy in your English class, read on. Because I’m about to help you out in a major way.

Baking something for any of the aforementioned males (or females, to be politically correct) could be the key to the best Valentine’s Day of your life. Guys like the instant gratification of delicious baked goods, as well as the slightly sexist idea that you’ve spent time in the kitchen to make them something. What’s great is that, if you don’t consider yourself a wonderful baker, your special someone never has to know that the amazing cookies you brought him on V-day came from a $5 roll of refrigerated dough.

Tricky, tricky.

What follows are a few of my own ideas for wooing several different types of guys that you might be trying to woo yourself. And if none of these pertain to you, here’s a tip- you can NEVER go wrong with chocolate chip cookies.

For your boyfriend: Chocolate Dipped Krispie Treat Hearts
Because you’re baking for your boyfriend, you can get away with using heart shapes. And I haven’t met a guy here who doesn’t love Rice Krispies- I think it’s because they’re all secretly five years old.

For the hookup you’d like to make into something more: Peanut Butter Oreo Cupcakes
Incorporating peanut butter cups into a pudding parfait was a great idea. Making truffles out of oreos and white chocolate was another great idea. But making cupcakes out of Reese’s cups and Oreos is quite possibly the best idea ever- get ready for you guy to change his relationship status on the spot.

For the hookup who is allergic to peanut butter: Red Velvet Whoopie Pies
Guys with peanut allergies can be incredibly hard to bake for, mostly because so many delicious things incorporate peanut butter in one way or the other. Luckily, red velvet is loved by (almost all)- and the colors are perfect for Valentine’s Day.

For that hot guy you want to impress: Cookie Dough Brownies
Like a brookie, but better. And since you don’t want to invest too much time into a guy you don’t know that well, these are incredibly easy to make, using box mixes for both the cookie dough layer and the brownie layer.

Stacey Oswald, originally from South Florida, came to Vanderbilt as a member of the class of 2015 and got involved with HerCampus her freshman year. She became assistant editor that year and is now the Campus Correspondent for Vanderbilt HC as a sophomore. Stacey is currently a columnist for Ask Miss A- Nashville and the life section of The Hustler. She's also very involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta, as well as Invisible Children. Outside of school and her extracurriculars, Stacey finds happiness in many sources, the most crucial being exercise and the sun. She loves to attend exercise classes and is an avid runner; she recently completed the Country Music Half Marathon. She also loves Vitamin D, especially when on the beach- though of course, she only soaks up the sun after applying SPF. A few of the things Stacey couldn't live without? Good food (especially from Sweet Cece's, Bricktops, and Samurai Sushi), great books (The Hypnotist's Love Story is a recent favorite), her family back in Florida, her wonderful boyfriend, and all of the great friends she's made at Vanderbilt.

Besides Her Campus, Jessica is involved in newspaper, APO service fraternity, math tutoring and youth mentoring. She enjoys playing tennis, reading Jodi Picoult novels and finding new "pins" for her Pinterest page in her spare time. Jessica is incredibly excited to be a part of the Her Campus team!
