Fall is just about here, bringing with it colder temperatures and more rainy days. Though the rain makes for a perfect night in with hot chocolate by the windowsill, the cold hard truth is that we have to venture out into the gloominess in order to get to all of our classes! The best way to brighten up your rainy day is exactly that – to brighten up! Embrace the neons and patterns that you wouldn’t normally wear.

Umbrellas: My favorite brand of umbrella (other than the $450 Burberry House Check classic) is totes! Their umbrellas come in hundreds of designs: chevron, polka dot, striped, floral, you name it! They also have tons of different sizes and styles – my absolute favorite is the totes micro, because it fits into just about every bag I would ever take out with me. I have the micro in a bright yellow (HIMYM anyone?) as well as a cheetah print!

Boots: Who can resist the classic Hunter rain boot? These cute boots are the go-to for college girls for a reason! The bright colors are irresistible – I am personally in love with the glossy turquoise pair!

Rain coats: My pick is the ‘Venture’ Lightweight Jacket by North Face. It comes in a variety of different colors, including the black-grey neutrals, as well as bright and fun colors!

Vanderbilt

Stacey Oswald, originally from South Florida, came to Vanderbilt as a member of the class of 2015 and got involved with HerCampus her freshman year. She became assistant editor that year and is now the Campus Correspondent for Vanderbilt HC as a sophomore. Stacey is currently a columnist for Ask Miss A- Nashville and the life section of The Hustler. She's also very involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta, as well as Invisible Children. Outside of school and her extracurriculars, Stacey finds happiness in many sources, the most crucial being exercise and the sun. She loves to attend exercise classes and is an avid runner; she recently completed the Country Music Half Marathon. She also loves Vitamin D, especially when on the beach- though of course, she only soaks up the sun after applying SPF. A few of the things Stacey couldn't live without? Good food (especially from Sweet Cece's, Bricktops, and Samurai Sushi), great books (The Hypnotist's Love Story is a recent favorite), her family back in Florida, her wonderful boyfriend, and all of the great friends she's made at Vanderbilt.
