Meet Chrissy Oberg, a sophomore student on the Varsity swim team. I’ve been lucky enough to have Chrissy as a classmate, so I interviewed her to get to know a little more about her. She is a South Carolina native and even qualified for the Olympic Trials this past year! She loves Econ almost as much as her dog and she always makes family a priority. Here are a few more facts!
Q: What is your favorite part of being on the Varsity swim team?
A: The team- we have so many different types of girls but we all love being around each other and we always come together as a team to compete.
Q: What event do you swim?
A: I swim the 100 and 200 Backstroke.
Q: How did you react when you learned that you qualified for the Olympic Trials this past summer?
A: I was really, really happy. Getting a trials cut was the biggest goal I had for myself this past year. After my race when I was trying to qualify, looking up at the clock and seeing that I had accomplished what I wanted to was an amazing feeling.
Q: What was it like at the trials?
A: It was one of the best experiences of my life. To compete with all of the best swimmers in the country and watch people like Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin qualify for the Olympic Team was something I’ll never forget. The facility was incredible as well. I also got to see a lot of my friends who swim at other schools in other parts of the country who I don’t get to see very often, which was really great.
Q: Are you involved in anything else on campus?
A: I am involved in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and I am in Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Q: What has been your favorite part of Vanderbilt so far?
A: The community, everyone here is so friendly and open to new things and new people. Also, every opportunity in the world is available to students here; we just need to find where they are and take advantage of them.
Q: Any future career plans?
A: I am studying History and Economics and minoring in American Politics. I am planning on going to Law School.
