Meet Belmont’s CC Sarah Self

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

Name: Sarah Self

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky

Major/ Minor: Corporate Communications, minor in theatre

What are your interests and hobbies?

I’m actually a pretty big gamer, not many people know that about me. Most Saturday nights you’ll find playing Nintendo with my boyfriend. I’m a big fan of superhero movies as well, I go back and forth as to whether I prefer DC or Marvel. I’m also a proud musical theatre nerd and have a hard time resisting the urge to break out into song and dance at any given moment. Essentially I’m a giant nerd in every way possible.

What are you involved in/off-campus?

Being CC takes up a lot of my time, especially since we aren’t a registered student org and can’t advertise on campus. Outside of it though, I’m involved in Belmont’s chapter of the PRSSA, The American Marketing Association, and I’m currently working a marketing internship at Huckleberry Branding.

How did you get involved with Her Campus Belmont?

Fun Fact, I actually learned about HC because of HC at Vandy. Over the summer, I found out that my boyfriend Jack was a campus cutie his freshman year at Vanderbilt. I thought it was such a cool site, and as soon as I found at Belmont had recently started a chapter, I knew I had to get involved.

Why did you choose Belmont?

I originally came to Belmont as a theatre major. Belmont is one of the best performing arts schools in the country, and since I wanted to stay in the south, it seemed like the best choice. Once I got involved in HC though, I realized how passionate I was about writing and ended up changing my major to reflect that.

Any Role Models? Why?

Michelle Obama. She built her life around helping people, she has two Ivy League degrees, and her arms are amazing. While there have been a plethora of outstanding First Ladies to look up to, I believe Mrs. Obama is the greatest. Also Batman because posing as a millionaire playboy while secretly fighting crime at night sounds like a really hard job.

What is your favorite spot at Belmont? In Nashville

I love Belmont’s gazebo garden, its absolutely beautiful and a great place to go when I just need to sit and think. I also really enjoy walking down 12th ave S and around Sevier Park when the weather is nice.

Fun fact about me:

I’m naturally flexible enough do every split. I was also a vegetarian for a little over three years but recently had to give it because it was so hard to maintain proper nutrition while getting the majority of my meals from the Belmont cafeteria.

What is your favorite thing about HC?

Honestly, I think it’s so cool to run a publication specifically for my school. We do have a school newspaper, but HC Belmont is unique in that we gear our content towards the female undergraduate population and their needs and wants. I’ve learned so much from being HC, too much to count. I haven’t regretted a single moment

Favorite Quote?

“Our entire life – consists ultimately in accepting ourselves as we are.”  Jean Anouilh

Favorite Food?

Spaghetti. I enjoy the simple things in life.

Favorite Movie?

I’ve always been really into film so that’s a really hard question. If I had to pick, I would say Moulin Rouge. I used to watch it all the time with my big sister when I was little, and it’s always been a favorite ever since. Plus the main character is a ginger and that’s a plus for me.

Favorite Song?

This question is absolutely impossible. I should have this question down as a Belmont student, but honestly I just don’t. The closest thing I can think of us Jump in the Line (Shake Senora) by Harry Belafonte. It’s a go to pump up song.
