Letter From The Editor: When They Go Low, We Will Not Always Go High

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

“Any activist who has ever taken the high road will tell you the high road gets backed up, and sometimes it’s OK to take a detour straight through the heart of uncensored rage.” — Andrea Gibson.

The past few weeks, especially the past several days, have been many things: heartbreaking, devastating, and sickening but also empowering and hopeful. But the most persistent emotion that I’ve seen throughout is anger. There is a place for unfiltered rage in a society that consistently refuses to believe, support, or bring justice for the millions of women who have been sexually assaulted. Far too often we are expected to turn the other cheek and be above the anger that fills so many of us. Not this time. I am angry and I will let that anger fuel me to build a better community that believes, honors, and most importantly, supports sexual assault survivors. The first of many steps to building this community is signing my name on the Vanderbilt Community Letter of Support for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford on behalf of Her Campus Vanderbilt.
