My parents, sister and I spent the last week in the U.S. Virgin Islands, on the beautiful island of St. Croix. Our resort was not a typical PBC-type spring break destination – in fact, most of the guests were elderly Danish people. For some, that may sound lame, but to us it was perfect! The resort had its own beach and hiking trails, from which we were able to appreciate all that the beautiful island has to offer. We rented a Jeep for two days and visited the two larger towns on the island, Christiansted and Fredericksted, which are full of warm, inviting people and interesting locally-owned stores and restaurants. I think my favorite part of the trip (besides my burn which I whole-heartedly expect to become a tan) was driving through a rainforest in the rain with my family. It seriously looked like Africa in some places! We had an incredible trip and got even closer as a family!

For Spring Break, I visited Washington DC with my best friend Mary Lockman. It was my first time to our nation’s capital and was an amazing trip!

Spring break this year did not feel like a spring break, but more like a fall or winter vacation. First of all, it came at the beginning of March before spring was even in motion. Secondly of all, I was in Washington, D.C. wearing ice skates while everyone else was putting their toes in the sand and simultaneously achieving the perfect glow. As you will see by my recent trip, I happen to be working further and further away from that particular glow, and am currently approaching translucent. Altogether, my vacation was pretty ironic. Despite the unique setting of my anti-Panama adventure, I had a really great week away from college. I was at home in Knoxville, Tennessee for two days with my parents and two petrified dogs (we were under tornado watch for nearly the entire first day). After that, I took a bus to D.C. and spent the rest of my break with my boyfriend, Ashish, that lives in an area about 45 minutes outside of the city. We spent early afternoons playing lacrosse and sampling different lunch menus across town that we had never tried, and then had our traditional date night in downtown D.C., where we hit up and ice rink across from the capitol and later walked around the city. It was his first time ice-skating, so a solid part of the evening was me laughing hysterically and him being on the ground unable to stand up. We followed through with another tradition of ours- cooking one or two meals from scratch- and those ideas obviously originated in my Pinterest news feed. We took the night bus back to our respective schools on Friday and he got off halfway at Virginia Tech despite my pleas for us to make our own personal extension on spring break. I took the bus back to school, and altogether accumulated about 35 hours of travel. I am not remorseful that I didn’t get to have the same beach experience as the majority of Vandy, but I am a little sad that eight days could physically pass at such a warped speed. This may be pushing it, but I am just about ready for spring break ’13…

Last week, I took the “break” part of Spring Break quite literally. Besides a trip to Disney World to kick off my week of freedom, I spent most of my time tanning, running, and watching the NFL Network in my home state of Florida. While that might sound a little boring to the people who raged all week, I was able to spend a lot of time regrouping and relaxing before coming back to school. I feel extremely refreshed, and I looked so much better after my week in the sun that my boyfriend hardly recognized me when we came back on Sunday. Definitely can’t be too upset about that one! :)Â

For my break, I went to visit my best friend Maggie in Salamanca, Spain! My favorite part of the trip? Seeing the aqueduct in Segovia! It was an incredible sight!
