Often times, we never get to experience life how we want because we’re so in touch with family, friends, and society. Just to give you an example of what I mean, you could be a pro-black, free-spirited, and sexually fluent individual, but because of the opinions of others, you tend to keep all of that in a shell to avoid judgment. Just to give you more insight, here is my story…

I’ve always felt I’ve been in the shadow of others. This being because most of the people in my life have big personalities as well as a big presence, so at times I found it hard to voice how I feel or be 100% myself. Over time it this has gotten better. I have been able to be myself more, but I still don’t always voice how I feel. It can be challenging at times, but I’m learning that big changes don’t come overnight.

Now my advice to you is: just go for it and be yourself. I know it’s easier said than done and you might even lose people along the way. However, when you’re lying on your death bed thinking about the life you have lived, are you going to be satisfied with the fact that you have lived your life in a shell? NO! So you just have to take it to step by step. Here are some steps that I recommend:

1. Find out who your true self is

2. Slowly begin to be insinc and live out each characteristic of who you really are.

3. Expose your true self to others (if they don’t like it, kick them to the curve)

4. Own who you are.

5. BE WHO YOU ARE!

Life is hard enough with trying to stay to yourself and not be who you are. Therefore, it’s only right that we own who we are, and maybe the world will be a better place. Sometimes it takes encouragement from someone to push you to be a better you. I hope you all take this advice and be who you are to the fullest extent. Peace and Love people!
