Maui Crush Monday: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Everybody loves a good success story and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has a great one, still in the works, at that! As an ex-football player, he followed in the footsteps of both his grandfather and father to become a wrestler. Then, he started his acting career and has been moving and shaking his way through Hollywood ever since. From playing parts as the tooth fairy to your regular tough guy, he has rocked every role. Even winning the 2017 NAACP Image Award for Entertainer of the Year, where he was up against artists like Beyonce and Chance the Rapper.

Dwayne Johnson voiced the character, Maui, in Moana (November 2016). That’s right, ocean demigod is actually The Rock. But he isn’t the star of the show! In an interview with ABC News, he credits the leading lady, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho), for being an ordinary teenage girl, even saying that she reminds him of his own daughter. Doesn’t that pull at your heart strings?! I can’t help smiling when I think about The Rock walking around practicing singing You’re Welcome (song in the soundtrack of Moana). He relates a lot to his character, being pushed by life’s failures. His versatility as an actor is admirable, and his personality is attractive! Plus, who doesn’t love the combination of a bald head, nice, meaningful tattoos, and wonderful arms? And he gets brownie points for being able to carry a tune!

More recently, Dwayne Johnson, returned to the action side of things in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He played Dr. Smolder Bravestone, ironic that his character would have that name considering he is quite smokin’ if I do say so myself! This is his second time acting in a movie alongside Kevin Hart and I have to say their bromance is astounding! No matter what his part in a movie is, it seems that he always fits the roles that he plays perfectly! He’s as handsome as he is humble and I am totally here for it! Props to him for continuing to make Hollywood more diverse, with his Samoan roots. You can also catch him on the smaller screen via HBO’s comedy series, Ballers.

I can’t wait to see more from Dwayne Johnson! Follow him on Instagram @therock for encouraging videos and to see him interacting with his fans–yet another thing to admire about our Maui Crush Monday!

-HCXO!
