Playing in makeup can be so exciting, well at least until all your clean makeup brushes become dirty from all of the product and disgusting dead skin that it collects from day to day. I dread the thought of having to clean and condition my brushes, but it has to get done one way or another. Here’s a couple cleaning tips to help make your cleaning process a little faster and a little more fun.

MUSIC

Cleaning your makeup brushes is already a boring situation, and washing them in silence makes it even worse. So, one thing I like to do is to turn on my favorite Pandora station and scrub those brushes to the beat. You’ll find that time passes a little faster too.

CLEANERS

I’m not really picky about what I use to clean my brushes with, but I do know that you do not want a drying product. Dawn Liquid Dish Soap is a great cleaner because of the degreaser. It penetrates the bristles pretty quickly too. If you’re looking for something a little fancier meaning a tad bit more expensive you should look into Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap. It comes in a few different scents as well.

CLEANING PAD OR EGG

This here is completely optional, but I find that it makes my scrubbing job a little easier. The cleaning pad or cleaning egg (found on eBay) has little scrubbing knobs on them that help when scrubbing the product out of the makeup brushes. Don’t fret if you can’t get your hands on one. You can easily use your hands.

CONDITIONER

Once a month I try to condition my brushes with olive oil before cleaning them. It helps keep your brushes soft and manageable. Just remember to get out all of the olive oil or your brushes will dry stiff and oily.  No Bueno!

DRYING

To dry my brushes I just sit them out under my bedroom ceiling fan. Then voila! They’re dry by the morning.

Happy Cleaning,

HCXO!
