How To Get Back in the Groove of School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

After a hopefully great, summer vacation, it’s now time to grab your pencils and papers and return to school. By now, we’ve all moved back into our dorms and apartments. Hopefully, we have all of our textbooks and syllabi printed out. But if you are anything like me, you’re probably still waiting on that adrenaline and excitement to kick back in for school.

There are a couple of things you can do to get back into the mindset of being a student:

1. Mentally recognize and accept that summer is over, and that it is time to focus on your education and career.  Your mind is more powerful than you believe; use it to your advantage!

2. Get plenty of rest at night! The time has come and gone for those late summer nights and staying up late. If you do not sleep, your body will hate you for it the next day.

3. Be positive about the situation! There are a lot of people that cannot afford to go to college, who have to drop out, who are going through far worse things than you having to wake up for a  8 am class. Re-evaluate what brought you to college and let that be your adrenaline to do awesome academically this year!

All in all, we know that sometimes school sucks. Classes will never be better than going to the beach, and studying will never conquer watching Netflix in bed. What it all comes down to is this: Would you rather work hard now, and play later? Or play now, and not be able to work (career wise) later? It’s your decision.  Have a great year!
