Homecoming Court 2014: Diamond Moore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

HC: What are your aspirations in life?

DM: I aspire to be a child psychologist. I’ve always felt as if most issues start at a young age so I wanted to be that person to help those children with those problems so they can grow up into a healthy adult. I want to make a difference in at least one child’s life. My ultimate goal is to receive my PhD in Child and Adolescent Psychology and start my own practice.

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

DM: I’m involved in numerous organizations on campus. I am the PR Co-Chair for NAACP, VSU Ambassador, Treasurer of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Psychology Club Member, and National Society of Leadership and Success member. I am also one of the few students at VSU that received the honor of being a recipient of the Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities award which nationally recognizes students for their academics.

HC: What are you currently doing to influence students on campus?

DM: Currently, as being part of the Executive Board of NAACP, I’ve assisted on influencing students on how to voice their civil rights and how to speak up for the injustices that has been facing our community and nation. Also, I am in the process of becoming a mentor for incoming freshmen through the Office of Social Equity.

HC: Why should you be chosen for Homecoming Queen?

DM: I believe that the Homecoming Queen is a woman [who] stands out whether because of leadership, academic honors, or being a social butterfly. The Homecoming Queen should be someone [who] loves to get to know people; somebody known for being in numerous organizations, and someone [who’s] very personable. The campus should have someone they look up to and that inspires them in numerous ways. For the campus of VSU, I believe that I possess all those qualities and acheivements.

HC: If you were to be crowned Homecoming Queen, how would you use your title to impact our campus?

DM: Regardless of the outcome of this year’s Homecoming election, I will continue to influence and work for the betterment of the campus.

HC: What sets you apart from other candidates?

DM: As a VSU Ambassador,  I’ve worked side by side with Faculty and Staff which is an attribute I feel that the Homecoming Queen should possess. She is personable with the students and faculty of VSU. My achievements and service to the campus and community is what makes me stand out the most.

Voting starts Tuesday, October 21.
