Don’t Ruck with These Guys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

I wouldn’t suggest playing rugby if you’re not three things:

1. Highly competitive

2. In posession of great strength and skill

3. A team player

I’ve followed the VSU Rugby club team for a while now, even watching them from home while they played in the National Championship in Pittsburgh last Spring.

I had the opportunity two weeks ago to attend an at home match for VSU Rugby vs. Morehouse.

Long story short, rugby is no joke. Every hit on the field reverberated through my own body and watching these men play one of the roughest sports I’ve ever seen was truly poetry and grit in motion. Here are a few shots I managed to grab at the match.

The match ended in a great outcome – the Blazers beating Morehouse! Since then, the Blazers have also played Armstrong and defeated them as well.

Their next home match will be on Saturday, February 27 at 2pm on the North Campus field vs. Emory. Come and check out this rough game!

Make sure to follow VSU Rugby on their Facebook page at “Valdosta State Rugby Club” and on Instagram at @vsu_rugby + #vsurugby!
