The top five greatest makeup brands for WOC made by WOC.

It’s Black History Month and we’re going to celebrate it in style, just with the correct foundation color this time. The makeup world has been a difficult place for women of color, either the shades are too light or the undertones are not what we are looking for.

For years, sacrifices have been made to look good, like looking ashy or looking extremely red. For some odd, there weren’t enough shade ranges for women of color, until eventually women had enough and came up with their own brand. Here are the top five black-owned makeup companies.

  1. Beauty Bakerie: Have your cake and put it on your face too. Beauty Bakerie is all sweets and goodies where you can find everything that you need. Tons of shades and tones to match your needs and desires.
  2. The Lip Bar: Known to be called “colorful cockroaches” when the company first started out, they grew and became extremely popular and now is sold in Target.
  3. Crayon Case: We all loved playing with crayons, drawing pretty pictures, now our faces can be the canvas to our artworks. The company was inspired by the classic crayon box and other school supplies. Products include highlighters concealers, chalk dust setting powders, marker eyeliners, and much more.
  4. Juvia’s Place: If you want a bold, vibrant, rich and colorful palette then Juvia’s Place is the place for you. Juvia’s Place has a wide range of foundations and concealers for everyone. Make a statement with Juvia’s Place with a bold eye look and gorgeous lip.
  5.  Fenty Beauty: And lastly, our queen Ms. Robyn Rihanna Fenty. It seems as though the Queen has taken a break from music but we love her nonetheless for she continues to feed us with stunning makeup looks for all occasions.
