So I may be late, but last week, I started watching the MTV show Are You The One? Now, I guess you can say that I am one of those people who are in love with the thought of love, so I’m not surprised that I have taken a liking to this show. For those who aren’t that familiar with what Are You The One? is, here’s a brief synopsis of what the show is about.

Are You The One? is a reality tv series that follows 20 people (10 men, 10 women) that live together in one big house to find their perfect match. If the ten couples are able to successfully find their TRUE perfect matches during the 10-week time span, they will win $1 million dollars to split among them. During each episode, each cast member has to choose another cast member who they believe to be their perfect match is, and compete in a challenge to win a date – the couple that the rest of the cast choose to be the MOST compatible will get the opportunity to test their match in the truth booth; which is the only way to confirm true matches *dun dun duuuuuuun.* Every episode ends with a ceremony where couples will be told exactly how many perfect matches there are in the house… but not which matches are correct.

One reason why I love this show is because it forces the cast members to truly search and find their match, instead of allowing them to simply lust after one another. While watching this show, my thoughts are always racing. My thoughts go from wondering if I could be on a show like that, or to something like if “true love” really exists.

Relationship compatibility has always been interesting to me, and I sincerely wonder if there is a “perfect match” for any and every one. After being curious about love and true compatibility, I decided to do some research about what science says about it all. Here are a few interesting facts that I found:

  • Apparently, it will only take up to 4 minutes to decide whether you like someone or not
  • According to a study, a woman is more attracted to a man when she is uncertain about how much he likes her.
  • Cuddling triggers the same neurological reaction as taking pain killers.
  • Falling in love can be as addicting as cocaine or nicotine
  • We are attracted to those who look and/or smell similar to one of our parents
  • You and your soulmate have crossed paths before
  • Love at first sight sort of exists
