8 Tips to Help You Transition to Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

As we all know, the fall season is upon us! For those who love this season, it’s a relief that it’s finally here. For those who feel the opposite, you’re probably pouting about the chill in the air. In any case, you may as well get as much out of fall 2015 as you can. There are a few things that may help you with the shift in the weather. Allow me to assist you in getting into the seasonal spirit!!

1. Find a Go-To Sweater

If you’re a summer-lover, I’m sure that one of your biggest woes currently is that temperature drop. Depending on your region, it may be a significant difference or just a small one, but typically the sun doesn’t beam the same that it did before and nights are much cooler. The best thing you can do to weather this weather is grabbing a cute and comfortable sweater—there are so many different materials and makes to choose from, I’m sure this won’t be a hard find!

2. Pull Out the Coffee Maker/Tea Kettle:

Obviously, warm drinks are better when it’s not sweltering outside; fall is the ideal time to fill your belly with soothing beverages. You know, the kind that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside! Even it’s a mug of hot cocoa, treat yourself to whatever your version of liquid heaven is.

3. Search for Pinterest Recipes:

Maybe it’s just me, but I love pinning meals that I plan on making (but hardly ever do). Something about the possibility of these extraordinary-looking foods is very exciting. There are always good, easy, healthy crockpot/stovetop/oven recipes just waiting to be found. And if you’re not partial to making it by yourself, team up with a friend or politely ask that one family member who always slays with the pots and pans.

4. Plan a Fall-Themed Date:

Contrary to popular belief, going on a date does not require a bae. Getting your closest guy and gal pals together and setting out to embrace the season will surely put you in a good mood! If you have a good set of friends, then they can make anything more enjoyable. If you do have someone special, then spice up your usual date night routine! Although there’s nothing wrong with Netflix and chilling, a haunted house (for those who actually enjoy being scared), pumpkin carving, or a bonfire will make for an incredible evening.

5. Clean Out Your Closet:

I know what you’re thinking, “where did this one come from?”, but stay with me! Fall is in fact the [pre] season for giving; I know that there’s something you don’t wear anymore that you’re hanging on to for no particular reason. There are plenty of people who will need clothes to stay warm in the months to come and if you can contribute to your local Good Will, homeless shelter, or a family that you know is in need, DO IT!

6. Take Advantage of the Sales:

This one hardly needs explaining, but seriously, it’s a great time to shop for next spring or summer. I won’t say that stores are practically giving their stuff away, but you can find some great steals around this time. While you’re shopping for things that are now out of season, you may find some markdowns on clothes and shoes that are in season too. Plus if you’re planning on doing #5 then this is another great benefit. Keep an eye out!

7. Keep Your OJ On Standby:

While I do love fall and the weather that comes along with it, I don’t love the icky sicknesses that seem to set in around this time. The transfer of germs is something serious in offices, classrooms, and basically any place with people…so everywhere. To fight the cold that your best friend’s boyfriend’s cousin’s daughter just got over, pour yourself a tall glass of Orange Juice. No one is safe! You never know what the people around you have been exposed to or if that tickle in your throat is just a tickle or an Upper Respiratory Infection. Take preventative measures by staying warm and not letting anyone sneeze on you.

8. Go Spend Some QT With Your Family:

Hopefully, by now you’re aware that your family isn’t always made up of the people that are related to you by blood. Now is a great time to cuddle up with the ones you love—or for those who don’t like physical contact just hang out. Do anything you can to spend quality time with these people, especially if you don’t get to see them as much. Put together a puzzle or watch some home videos, anything will do as long as you’re bonding.

Happy fall, y’all!! Be sure to make the most of every moment.
