Getting things done can be a challenge, especially when in college. It seems every time you turn around, there is a project that is due. You start to put things off that are due at a later date, then it starts to catch up with you. When the due date seems far, you think you got a couple more days to be able to work on it. Then that day has arrived now you struggle to get all your work turned in on time. It happens because of procrastination. Yes! Almost everyone has been guilty of procrastination in their lifetime. We put things off because we do not feel like dealing with it at the moment. We hold off doing work for a couple of times, then we regret it. Now, we run around like chickens with our heads cut off and rush to make the due date. Procrastination can bring failure when you are a college student because you do not learn the material when you don’t take the time to do the work. Here are five ways to avoid procrastination.

  1. Get organized
  2. Take breaks
  3. Get rid of distractions
  4. Start with difficult subjects first
  5. Take it serious

Procrastination is a difficult situation to avoid. Procrastination is hard to get ourselves out of then we do not even notice we are procrastinating. We might call it other things like being tired, being busy at the moment, and forgetful thinking. Ask yourself why am I procrastinating. When you ask yourself this, you can acknowledge the problem and stop procrastinating.  Once you learn how to handle procrastination, doing work will come easy for you. When tackling procrastination, you discover that you will have free time on your hand to be able to do the things you want to do.
