Summer break is usually highly anticipated, but after about two weeks, we all kind of find ourselves just…over it. Unless you’re taking summer classes, it can get pretty boring sitting around doing the same old things day after day. Here are a few things you can do to make those three months go by a little bit faster.

1. Find a job

Although getting a job doesn’t feel like much of a break, having an aspect of your life on a schedule makes the days go by so much faster. Plus, a lot of students leave for the summer, which means there will be lots of places looking to hire. Although it may not sound very appealing, think about all of the money you can make and save by the end of the summer!

2. Get a gym membership

Stay healthy and pass the time by becoming a member of a gym. Of course, there’s always the student health center, but oftentimes paying for something motivates us more to utilize what we pay for. Go every morning, go every evening; you can even go every morning and every evening if you really want to take things up a notch! You’ll find that working out gives you something to look forward to everyday and you’ll love the way your body looks and the way you feel by the time the new semester starts!

3. Community Service

Volunteer at a women’s shelter, a Boys and Girls Club, a hospital, nursing home or anywhere that you can interact with others and help them in the process. Doing community service is very rewarding both to you and the people you volunteer for. It’ll give you something to do and make you feel really good knowing that you were able to help someone, whether it be an elder or a child.

4. Read

Stay educated this summer by burying your face in books. Find a series of books that you have a lot of interest in and read a little bit everyday. Reading may not sound like the most entertaining activity to do, but once you find the right genre or the kind of books you’re really into, you won’ be able to stay away! Besides, they do say that reading is [fun]damental.

5. Find your inner craftiness

Go on Pinterest and look for different crafts you can do to use as gifts or even to redecorate your dorm or apartment. You can do a project a day, a project a week, or even a project a month for the really big projects. There are endless possibilities such as creating canvas painting with quotes or even restoring an old piece of furniture. At the end of it all, you may get a new piece to hang on your wall or a new floral arrangement to use as a centerpiece!
