5 Things Yeezy Has Taught Us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

After this year’s Grammy, a slew of interviews, memes, and parody accounts proved people still have mixed emotions about our beloved Kanye West. Due to his actions, some people think that he’s too self-involved, he thinks he’s a God, he think he’s always right because he is the jerk that interrupted Taylor Swift’s 2009 VMA speech and almost pulled another “Kanye” move with Beck this year.

After reading a post from Buzzfeed highlighting some of Kanye’s quotes, it was clear to me that the way he feels about himself and the world around him is warranted… most of the time. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Yeezy that resonate with me everyday and hopefully that help you in some way too!

1. “I refuse to accept other people’s ideas of happiness for me, as if there’s a ‘one size fits all’ standard for happiness.”

2. “If I don’t scream, if I don’t say something then no one’s going to say anything.”

3. “My greatest award is what I’m about to do.”

4. “Justice could just be clearing a path for people to dream properly.”

5. “Criticism can bother you, but you should be more bothered if there’s no criticism; that means you’re too safe.”

Creativity, fearlessness, assurance in one’s self and abilities is what Yeezy has taught me over the years. Go after the things you want, master whatever skill you want to utilize in life, jump off the deep end! Who cares what the next person has to say? His approach may not be appealing to the masses, but that kind of message is one you can’t overlook!
