5 Struggles Of Being A Female Football Fan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Being a football fan during the season is hard enough! You hope your team makes good decisions and all your players stay healthy but when you’re a girl who loves football there’s more to the story.

1. Trying to talk about football with your girlfriends but they don’t understand anything.

There are a lot of things you can talk to your girls about, including boys, drama, and fashion…but when it comes to football you’re on your own. Your girls have no desire to watch football and they definitely have no interest in discussing it.

2. Buying your favorite team’s t-shirt/jersey means it will more than likely come from the men’s section because their clothing is always more comfortable.

Women’s clothing when it comes to sports is often bedazzled, flashy, tight and pink. You’re not really into the whole “skintight, pink jersey, with Manning’s named rhinestoned on the back” look.

3. Guys always want to play 21 questions with you because they don’t believe you genuinely love the sport.

No, you don’t watch football because you think the players are cute or because their wife or girlfriend is a model, singer, or actress. Yes, you know who Vince Lombardi is and you don’t need an explanation from anyone about the position of players and what their specific role is. You know football and that’s the bottom line.

4. No one chooses you for their fantasy football team because…well because you’re a girl.

It’s like being picked last in dodgeball, except this time you don’t get picked at all.

5. “You must be a tomboy?”

Your love for football has nothing to do with the fact that on Saturday nights you throw on a cute dress and heels, blend your Naked palette into a fierce smoky eye, rock a Kardashian style contour and treat the world like your runway.

Being a female football fan comes with its struggles but at the end of the day your love for the sport trumps everything else.  HCXO!
