Wine Not Try These Wisconsin Winerys?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWM chapter.

Wine:  “An alcoholic drink that can make you either feel floaty, giggly, carefree or if a little too much, sick.”

Since I have a love for wine (as most people do), I thought I’d share my top four Wineries that are a go-to-must in Wisconsin! You’ll also see my personal recommendations for wines at each particular place. These are a lot of wines I have tried in the past that are on the sweeter/semi-sweet side and are a perfect spring/summer tastes!

1. Cedar Creek Winery – Cedarburg (https://www.cedarcreekwinery.com)

This winery is family-owned and is located in Historic Downtown Cedarburg. This place offers you to taste four featured wines and if wanting to taste more it’s only $2 more! Tours are also the same concept where at the end you get to taste four complimentary wines. It also has been recognized in both a national and international wine competitions. I personally recommend trying the Strawberry Blush, which is a semi-sweet grape wine that will be available on April 21st, 2017. It’s definitely worth the drive every year!

2. Coopers Hawk Winery and Restaurant – Brookfield (https://www.coopershawkwinery.com)

Come to Cooper Hawks tasting room! This is where you will get to sample seven of their latest wines with no pre planning at all. This will give you a chance to buy some of your favorite wines, shop for unique gifts or even go ahead and eat at their restaurant. I recommend trying their Riesling.  It was just recently awarded Double Gold, Best of Class in the 2017 International Eastern Wine Competition!

3. Baraboo Bluff Winery – Baraboo (http://www.baraboobluffwinery.com)

This winery is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin, which is close to Madison and Wisconsin Dells. I went here last summer and it is a place everyone should come to! Its scenery is so beautiful as you look out the hillside while enjoying your tastings from the patio. For $3 you can pick four wines of your choosing or $5 you can try them all. Every tasting gets a complimentary wine glass! My personal recommendation would be the Baraboo Blush. It has a slight citrus flavor with strawberry undertones. Perfect for some sunshine and time with friends!

4. Door Peninsula Winery – Sturgeon Bay (https://store.dcwine.com/winery/)

First time in Door County and what do I do? Go to every place to wine taste in the area. This was the last of the bunch to try and there was something about this one that is worth going to! It is on $3 a person and you can taste as many wines as you’d like (or that’s what I did). You also will receive $3 off a bottle of wine of your choosing. I personally recommend the Lighthouse White! It has melon, green apple, orange and rosemary notes, which is something I’d never think of trying. It is a sweet wine, but with the acidity of the citrus, it’s toned down.
