Meet Kelsie Lerquin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWM chapter.

Meet Kelsie Lerquin, UWM Panther Dance Team’s captain and talented dancer. From her blonde ambition to her fun-loving personality, this girl takes UWM by storm one dance at a time.

What is your major?

KL: I am currently majoring in Communications, with a minor in JAMS.

What year are you?

KL: This is my fourth year here at UW Milwaukee.

You’ve been a dancer your entire life, you even made All-state your senior year in high school for your solo routine. What is your favorite thing about dance?

KL: This is hard- there’s too much to love about dance! But I think I would have to say the fact that I can express myself in so many ways by just moving my body. It’s also a plus I get to do it with my awesome teammates!

How long have you been dancing with UWM?

KL: I have been dancing on Panther Dance Team since my freshman year, so this is my fourth year on the team, and my second year as a captain.

Describe your dream job!

KL: My (unrealistic) dream/fantasy job would have to be a communications liaison for the FBI- you’ll understand if you’ve ever seen Criminal Minds!

If you could go to any concert (Artist dead or alive) who would you see?

KL: My inner middle-school self is screaming Justin Bieber right now, but lately Demi Lovato has been my go to girl. I think she would be amazing to see in concert!

If you had to describe yourself in three words, which words would you use?

KL: Giving, goofy, and happy!

If you could give any tips for any young girls looking to dance in college, what would you tell them?

KL: DO IT! One of the best decisions I’ve made. You go into college with 16(ish) best friends that you can go to for absolutely anything. They become your family. I would also say being on a dance team really kept me busy, and helped me manage my time a lot better. Overall, it’s an amazing opportunity- I say take it!

Where is one place you’ve always wanted to go?

KL: I’ve always thought Australia would be a cool place to visit, but honestly I’ve never been out of the country so I would be pleased with anywhere!

Where are you from?

KL: I am originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin. I attended Ashwaubenon High School, where I participated on the dance team for all four years as well.

Do you think you’ll continue dancing after college?

KL: I sure hope so. Dance has been such a huge part of my life, I can’t imagine myself without it- it’s a part of me!

I'm a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee studying marketing and international business. I spend most of my time traveling, writing, interning and hanging out with the most inspiring people.
