Ten Ways to Ask Someone Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

1. Ask them to coffee

When you ask someone out to coffee, it’s the most generic way of letting them know that you are interested. They’ll automatically know that you’re trying to make a move.

2. Text them

Messaging someone to hangout is a lot more subtle. If you’re not sure how they feel about you, this would be a good way to spend time with them, without making it seem like you want to go on a date.

3. Ask them to study with you

Since everyone in university is studying, this is a good way to spend a lot of time with someone. The best part is that you can talk to them during the study breaks you should be taking. This is very discreet, and you can get to know them better while doing something you should be doing.

4. Ask them straight up

If you’re bold enough, or you know that they are interested, walk up to them and ask them straight up if they want to go out on a date.

5. Have a friend ask them out for you

Probably not a great impression to make, but if your friend is closer to them than you, and you’re too scared to ask, it’s always an option to get them to do the work for you.

6. Slip notes in their bag or locker

You can pretend you’re in elementary school again and ask them out by passing notes. If you don’t put a name on it, you can make them guess who’s asking them out. It’ll be fun.

7. Buy them a pizza

Because no one can say no if you show up to their house with a pizza. Plus that automatically makes you girlfriend/boyfriend material. Cheese pizza is usually the best way to go. There’s nothing worse than showing up with a pepperoni pizza and finding out  that  your crush is a vegetarian.

8. Create a flash mob

It can be like a promposal, only for a date instead. You can hire professional dancers and start a flash mob in the middle of campus just to ask your crush out. How can they say no? Make sure you pick a good song though, as that could make or break your flash mob. I recommend “Shut Up and Dance With Me” by Walk The Moon.

9. Just be yourself

Just go up and ask them to go see a movie, go for dinner, or go on a good old fashion date. Show them your true self and if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. Don’t be nervous. What’s the worst that can happen?

10. Group date

Going on a group date or a double date lifts some of the pressure. This situation is more of just a group hangout, but it still gives you lots of chances to make your move. It also won’t feel as much like a date so you won’t be as nervous and can be yourself.

And if all else fails…

Tell them you want to bang them.

This is very forward and will work about 9% of the time.
