“You don’t need no other body” Whew! When it comes to amazing vocals, Tems takes the crown! Temilade Openiyi, popularly known by her stage name Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. She was born on the 11th of June, 1995, in Lagos, Nigeria to a Nigerian mother and a British-Nigerian father. This article is dedicated to Tems and her stan worthy moments so far in 2022.

On June 29, 2022, Tems became the first ever Nigerian female artist to win BET’S Best International Act Award. It was well deserved! She also received the award for Best Collaboration for the remix of Wizkid’s “Essence”, featuring her and the Canadian pop star, Justin Beiber. “Essence” is a very catchy song and definitely was the song of summer 2020 and 2021, but GUESS WHAT? We are still jamming out to it in summer 2022.

Beyonce dropped the tracklists for her new album, and to our astonishment, Tems was credited as one of the songwriters. She was credited as a writer for “Move”, the tenth track on Beyonce’s seventh studio album, Renaissance, which was released on July 29, 2022. This is a huge win for Tems and her fans. We can definitely feel the afrobeats in the song. Over here, we stan and root for Tems all day, everyday, and wish her more wins.

Tems’ track “Higher” from her EP For Broken Ears was sampled on Future’s song, “Wait For U”. Featuring Canadian Rapper Drake, it is the seventh track on the I Never Liked You album. With Tems’ vocals, “Wait For U” is a standout song on the album. It debuted atop Billboard Hot 100, giving Tems her first No.1 on the chart. Future took to Twitter to appreciate Tems, tweeting “Even tho wait for u is a sample and not an original recording I still put featuring @temsbaby if u weren’t familiar with her work. Thank u Tems”. It was definitely one of the most popular tracks of summer 2022, with people all over the world using the sound for their TikToks and Instagram reels. “Wait For U” is still a part of Apple music’s top 5 most played songs in the United States of America.

Tems has done it again! She is definitely having an incredible year. The Black Panther trailer was released, and Tems’ soothing vocals are in the background as she covers Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman, No Cry’. The song is accessible for streaming, but the movie won’t be in theatres until November 11 in the US.

Tems is definitely the IT girl right now, and we are anticipating new music from this wonder and wishing her success in all she does.
