2020 was a difficult year. All over the world people came together and to fight for justice, equality, and reform. We are on a mission to eliminate systemic racism and end violence against Black communities.

Although it is 2021, this does not mean the matter at hand is solved. We need to continue to demand justice for Black Lives throughout our lives. We need to honour the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Walter Wallace, and so many more innocent people.

Here is list of ways you can keep supporting through 2021:

Protest, Protest, and Protest!

The best way to get your voice heard is by going out to protest. Protests are one of the most effective ways to create change that is shown throughout history. Keep in mind that we are still living in a pandemic; wear a mask and social distance to ensure you and others are staying safe. Connect with friends and your community to see if there is an upcoming BLM protest. If not, why not plan one of your own?

Sign Online Petitions

If you cannot go out to a protest, then online petitions are the way to go! They are a great alternative to protests. Unfortunately, there is a downside to these petitions. They require lots of signatures to be seen or heard.

Support Local Black-Owned Businesses

Buying from a local Black-owned business right here in Windsor is a great way to continue supporting throughout 2021. You’ll be directly empowering and supporting the Black community.

Some local business you can shop local:

–       Caribbean Island Spice

–       Jubba Restaurant

–       Bliss Skateboard Shop

–       Entice Salon

–       Fey’Kare

–       Instahealth Box

Educate Yourself and Your Family

Learning and changing our beliefs will cause lasting change. We need to know how the movement began, the importance behind it, and why we need to continue to make a difference. With the internet and online connections, we can easily educate ourselves and others around us. There are tons of different ways to educate yourself, from literature to documentaries.  It is also important to learn from people of colour that are directly in our lives. Listening to the experiences and struggles POC go through can help expand your knowledge.

Donate

Donating can help to support innocent victims’ families. With unexpected funerals to legal fees, they need your help. Look for legitimate GoFundMe or other verified accounts.

You can also donate to help protestors raise awareness or afford bail.

Here are a few more organizations to support:

 George Floyd Memorial Fund

 Walter Wallace Jr. Memorial Fund

 Justice for Breonna Taylor

 The Bail Project

 National Bail Out

Every small change counts. The smallest action towards this movement will help make the world a better place. Our mission to end systemic racism towards people of color will be successful.

Keep up your hopes and keep supporting!
