Football Star That Wants to Give Back, Josh Scaife

Rachel Fitzgerald Student Contributor, University of Windsor
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Josh Scaife is an 18-years-old, first year History major from Belle River, Ontario. On the University of Windsor’s Lancer Football team, his position is Offensive Tackle. This celebrity isn’t just great on the field, but a winner off of it as well!

How long has football been a passion of yours?

Since I started playing in grade 6 when I used to watch it with it with my dad.

Was it your dad who inspired you to play football?

Yeah, we used to play when I was little. He taught me to catch as soon as I could walk. As soon as my mom would let me, he had me start playing football. We won and I fell in love with it!

What do you hope to bring to the Lancer football team?

Anything! But I’m such a young player, there’s not really a lot I can contribute yet. It’s hard.

What are some positive things about the team this year?

Even though we’ve been off to a rough start I feel as though everyone loves the game and they love what they’re doing. Everyone is fighting hard for every point and every touchdown that we get. We’re only going to get better from here.

Do you hope to continue with football in the future?

Yes, any chance that I get! Whether I’m playing for a fifth year, coaching, or playing in the CFL, football is my life. It’s my passion.

Do you use football to help out in the community?

Yes. Right now it’s a little strained with my commitment to the university but I try to help out as much as I can with the St. Anne’s football team. As soon as I’m done with our season I’ll be helping out with St. Anne’s full-time.

What do you like about coaching vs playing?

Well coaching is an entirely different experience. It’s stressful but it’s the most amazing thing when you see someone who’s been struggling then you see how they’re improving and know that it’s because of you. It’s one of the best feelings.

Do you want to get your kids into football?

Yes I’d love to! I’m not going to force them into it, but nothing could make me happier.

What have you gained from playing football?

I think the benefits of football are teamwork, hard work, and perseverance. I used to get bullied a lot and it helped me gain confidence. It’s one of the best things that ever happened to me. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without football.

What is some advice you would give to students who want to go into football but don’t know if they would be able to?

Honestly, with the amount of positions, different skills, and body types football needs, you can definitely join no matter what your level of skill or athleticism. You’ll never regret the decision to play.

To get to know you better outside football, here are some different questions. What, in your opinion, is the best way to have macaroni and cheese?

With ketchup and really hot, like burning hot with lots and lots of cheese, more cheese than noodles.

What’s better, microwave or toaster oven?

I’ve never used a toaster oven. I’d have to say microwave. I’ve used a Panini press though, those things are legit. Have you ever made a peanut butter or Nutella sandwich then just grilled it in a Panini press? It’s the best thing ever.

What is the most watched show on your Netflix account?

Scrubs, oh my god, I love Scrubs, it’s amazing.
