Five of the Most Underrated Dwight Schrute Moments

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

The Office is one of my absolute favourite shows of all time. I enjoy the British version quite a lot as well, but the American version has so many moments that stand out more to me. My favourite character is Dwight Schrute. Even if you aren’t familiar with The Office, you’ve likely seen Dwight before in memes. He is my favourite character because he is so unique and does things out of the ordinary. Here are my top five favourite Dwight moments of all time. Some of them aren’t on the popular lists other people have made!

1. “Art of the Swap”

In Episode 18, Season 7 of The Office, Dunder Mifflin (the paper company that the show takes place in) is hosting an annual garage sale. Dwight manages to swap insignificant items for a squid plush that a coworker had, but got swept up in one of Jim’s pranks over “magic beans”. He ends up switching his telescope for the beans. I love this moment because the way Dwight persuades people into trading items with him is hilarious, and the aftermath of his “success” is great.

2. “Baby’s are One of my Many Areas of Expertise”

In Episode 3, Season 3, Dwight mentions his skills with children, claiming he did his own circumcision. It is one of the funniest lines in the Office that he has ever said, in my own opinion, and it shocks me how not many people give that line credit. It’s so obscure and I wouldn’t have expected it coming.

3. “Secret Weapons”

In Episode 7, Season 4, Dwight shares with the filmmakers where he hides his weapons throughout the office. In the previous episode, one of his fellow co-workers, Roy, wanted to beat up Jim for kissing Pam (secretary of the office). Dwight was able to take down Roy with the pepper spray he had velcroed to the bottom of his desk.

4. “Belsnickel is Nigh”

In Episode 9, Season 9, Dwight comes to the office Christmas party dressed as a German version of Santa Claus(e) and gets fully into character. I don’t even need to elaborate on this; the clip speaks for itself.

5. “DNA Diaper”

In Episode 24, Season 8, Dwight tries very hard to get a sample of Angela’s son’s DNA to prove he is the father of the child and is successful. Dwight was in an on-again-off-again relationship with Angela, one of his fellow co-workers. He knows he is the father of her child without her admitting to it. He even gets his cousin “Mose” in on helping him, as he stages to pretend to be Dwight and drive a similar car.

There are many other Dwight Schrute moments that I absolutely adore! It was hard to limit them to just five, but I know if I do more than five, I won’t be able to stop! He is truly one of the funniest television characters I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t watched The Office, you definitely should just because of Dwight.
