Yule is a celebration of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. It is a celebration of rebirth, the return of light, and the beauty of the night sky, as such it carries associations with femininity and fertility. This year’s Yule will occur from December 21st to 23rd. Here are some ways you can celebrate Yule in your own life.

Star Gaze

Since Yule celebrates the longest night of the year, it only makes sense to take in the beauty of the night sky. Oftentimes, the stars are at their clearest during the winter and on the darkest night of the year, you are only increasing your chances of seeing a glorious night sky.

Light a Fire

Yule is a celebration of the rebirth of the sun as much as it is a celebration of the night sky. Lighting a fire is a way to welcome in a new year of sunlight and create your own source of light within the darkness. This can be done with something as simple as a candle or as complex as a giant bonfire.

Make Mulled Wine

Traditionally Yule would have been a time shortly after the completion of the brewing of Ale. Making mulled wine is a way to carry on the tradition of brewing and drinking alcohol during the Yule season. Not only that, but it gives you a delicious warm beverage to enjoy during the darkest night of the year.

Have a Feast

Yule was celebrated during a time when much of the year’s work was complete making it a time for feasting and rest. One of the best ways to celebrate Yule is to prepare a feast with the results of a bountiful harvest and a successful hunt.
