A (Non-Local’s) Windsor Restaurant Guide for Any Occasion

Finding new places to try in a new city can be daunting, so as a non-Windsor native, I’ve compiled a (non-exhaustive) list of places that are sure to please your friends and family.

Pub Food: The Loose Goose

I am an avid lover of good, greasy pub food, and my go-to in Windsor is the Loose Goose, on Ouellette. The Loose Goose is home to my favourite spinach dip, which has Cajun spices, sweet corn (trust me on this one), and is served in a bread bowl with pumpernickel bread, fried tortellini, tortilla chips, and fried pita.

They also have classic pub food, like burgers, club sandwiches, and wings (with tons of sauces, dry rubs, and blends to pick from)!

Mid-day bite: The Green Bean Cafe

Everyone loves a little treat throughout the day, and Green Bean is my favourite place for all of my study break needs! This classic UWindsor establishment (located less than 30 seconds from campus) has fantastic vibes, and even better food. With vegan and gluten-free options, this little café is my favourite spot to study, catch up with friends, or just grab some good comfort food!

Quick Bite: Whamburg

Conveniently located on campus (not so convenient for my bank account), Whamburg has quickly become a staple for students and staff alike. Serving smash burgers, twice-fried French fries, and milkshakes, this place has something for everyone (even you, vegans!). I’m a big fan of their fried chicken sandwich, the Fried Chix, but you really can’t go wrong here!

Brunch: The Twisted Apron

Fancy brunch lovers, rejoice! The Twisted Apron should be your next stop for breakfast or lunch! Serving the classics, like French toast, new takes on fan favourites, like their New York Benny, and totally new dishes, like their Dirty Bird. You’ll be sure to find something you love!

Sushi: Kona Sushi

Kona is a Windsor classic for a reason! With classic to fusion-style rolls, this is a perfect place to get into the world of sushi. Don’t like fish? Try their chicken teriyaki roll! Craving a burger and sushi? Try their Mac Daddy roll!

For the Garlic Lovers: Bubi’s Awesome Eats

Calling all garlic girls! This is the place for you. You won’t find anything without garlic on this menu (but don’t worry, it’s not overpowering unless you want it to be)! This place serves everything from sandwiches and burgers to pizzas and wings.
