18 Things I Learned in my 18th Year

1.) You can’t make people like you.

2.) Everything is temporary.

3.) Don’t be afraid to spend money, but prioritize.

4.) If you’re doing something you love, you’ll find the time and energy.

5.) Being nice to strangers doesn’t always mean you’re a good person, but not being nice to strangers always means you’re not a good person.

6.) Dressing to feel confident is more important than dressing for any other purpose.

7.) Surrounding yourself with positivity actually does make for a more positive life (shocker!).

8.) Mental health comes before any other kind of health.

9.) You have to give yourself time to grieve, but you have to limit that time.

10.) You are more in control of your life than you think.

11.) Not all exploration requires money and a plane ticket.

12.) Don’t degrade someone else’s accomplishment because you could’ve done it. They did it. You didn’t. Congratulate them.

13.) People get busy, but you can’t forget to show a little appreciation for the people that matter in your life.

14.) Work hard/play hard only works if you continue to work hard.

15.) No one has a right to an opinion on your life. Don’t listen to them unless they are legitimate concerns.

16.) It’s important to be politically correct, but it’s also important to keep your values and beliefs despite what the mass majority is saying.

17.) Talking to new people is only ever a good experience. You shouldn’t be afraid to learn a stranger’s story.

18.) Sleep is an important lesson on life.

I've always been a writer. I'm a Sagittarius with an INFP personality type. I have cats and dogs and love all animals. I am an ovo-lacto pescetarian veering into raw food, slow fashion, eco-friendly beauty, and all-natural skincare. I am a huge fan of language and study English Literature and Creative Writing. I have left footprints in Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. I have a million favourite quotes. I am a devoted Anglican. Finally, I believe love conquers all.
