10 Movies to Spark Your Halloween Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.

Whereas some may enjoy watching the endless reruns of Elf and White Christmas, personally, I am a die-hard Halloween fanatic. While walking up and down the aisle of costumes and decorations bring a smile to my face, nothing gets me more in the Halloween spirit than a fun and spooky Halloween movie. Although I tend to avoid horror movies, my movie watchlist is packed full of the fun classics that are sure to get anyone in the Halloween spirit.

1.    Hocus Pocus

If this movie isn’t on your Halloween movie list, obviously you are missing something. Packed full of magic and witches, everything about Hocus Pocus screams HALLOWEEN!

2.    Twitches & Twitches 2

Two teen witches get into some mischief and have to save their kingdom from darkness? Um, yes, please!

3.    Halloweentown (1 & 2)

Halloweentown is a Disney classic, and after watching the movie, I’m pretty sure every child wished they were a witch and could travel off on a broom to Halloweentown.

4.    The Nightmare Before Christmas

In all honesty, I actually have never seen this movie in full, only bits and parts of it. But, from what I have heard, this is everyone’s favourite to watch during the fall season.

5.    The Haunted Mansion

This is one of my favourite Eddie Murphy movies and is my go-to ride when in Disney World. This has the right amount of spookiness mixed with some romance and humour (of course).

6.    The Goonies

This is the perfect movie for those in the mood for a tale of adventure and friendship. While it may not be the most “Halloween” movie, it does suit the spooky factor.

7.    Monster House

Fun Fact: This movie actually terrified me as a child because my parents thought it would be a good idea to watch it in 3D. But, this is still one of favourites to watch around Halloween now.

8.    Ghostbusters

This classic will have you busting out your proton packs and stopping ghosts from terrorizing the city.

9.    Beetlejuice

This is a classic movie that (almost) everyone has seen. The Banana Boat song is already stuck in my head just thinking about this film.

10.  Hotel Transylvania

This movie is perfect for those who enjoy the animated movies, and this one encompasses all of the spooky creatures, such as Dracula and the Werewolf, while still keeping a spooky aspect.
