How to Survive Finals Week 101

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWG chapter.

Finals week….

The week we have been dreading since syllabus day is finally arriving. Are you ready for it? Already getting stressed out? Here are some helpful tips that you can do as you approach the toughest week in college.

  • The early bird always catches the worm!

Waking up early in the morning is sometimes not too much fun, however one thing I have found is that my mornings are more productive getting homework and studying done when waking up early. Waking up with a good attitude and ready to study is the best way to get started. Grab yourself a big cup of coffee and get straight to work. Drinking a cup of coffee is relaxing and helps brain cells wake up when starting school work.

Waking up and being productive not only allows you to have an afternoon full of relaxing (how nice), but your brain is actually more creative when you first wake up. So, why wait until the afternoon? Use your early morning creative brain and get your work done early!

  • Take a Break

Even when it is not finals week we are still overwhelmed with school and everything we have to do. Resting your brain is very important. Your brain needs rest during a day full of studying and staring at your computer screen. It is physically and mentally not okay for your brain to constantly be wrapped up in studying.

I spend my study breaks at the gym or doing something active. It feels good to sweat away all of my problems and refresh my brain cells. If you don’t have enough time, you can simply take study breaks by stretching, talking to friends, eating, showering and meditating.

  • Eat Healthy

Although finals week can be stressful, you must remember to eat because your brain needs food to function! Eating is one of the most important things to do while studying. Not only does it keep you somewhat active, but it also helps your brain cells and gets your creative juices in your brain flowing. Eating will help you properly gather and study the information you need so you that you will not forget it.

Eating fruit is one of the healthiest ways to keep your brain functioning. For example, blueberries help keep your attention while studying. They contain powerful antioxidants and other nutrients. Go to the grocery store a week before finals and prepare your book bag with healthy fruits and veggies, so you can feed your brain the nutrients it needs to study.

  • Lastly…STAY CALM

Stressing that you do not know anything that you have been studying for the past 12 hours is not going to get you anywhere. You must not overwhelm yourself, but instead remain confident while walking into the exam. If you studied your best, you are going to do your best. Do not stress out while taking your test because of the time, those around you or how hard the questions are on the test. Take deep breaths and think hard about all of your answer choices and know you will do awesome.

Hopefully these tips will help you out! Best of luck on conquering all of your finals!
