You’re stuck in your dorm with nothing but time on your hands. There aren’t many places you can go to have fun. You can’t experience the back to school parties or festivities because we are in the middle of a pandemic. Social distancing is killing your social life. Limited contact with the outside world is sucking you dry. How does one remain social?

Everyone misses those back to school festivities that involve meeting a lot of new individuals on your campus. During times such as these, we have to limit how many people we are around. If you are staying on campus, try getting to know some of the people in your residence hall. Find about five people that you are comfortable getting to know. You guys can practice social distancing while still having fun with one another!

Not all dining options near college campuses are fully open, so what do you do once you have a few people in your residence hall that you are getting to know? If you want to share a meal with new friends but aren’t comfortable with them entering your living space, try picking up food from the dining hall and enjoying it together in spaced-out recreational areas. Grassy areas are perfect for this! If you prefer to be very pre-cautious and not interact with new individuals on campus, you can also order takeout and pick-up food to enjoy with roommates within your own living space. You can have the social interaction you crave while also being safe!

While you will miss out on some college festivities on account of the pandemic, you don’t have to miss out on networking. Avoiding large gatherings is highly recommended at this time but you also may be considering the fact that you are a member or board member in a campus organization. You can still take advantage of campus organizations by staying connected virtually! While this is a confusing time, as we are all figuring out the new normal, you can always take an extra step and keep in touch with those that share interests with you! Follow your organization’s online platforms and interact with their posts or start a group chat with the other members in which you check in with each other. Seeing your friend’s faces on a facetime call can be just the thing to spice up your social life!
