We Tried Out 4 Last-minute Halloween Makeup Ideas You Can Do Too

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWF chapter.

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays. You get to dress up as anything you want and eat as much candy as you possibly can. What’s not to love? However, putting together the perfect costume can be stressful, especially if you wait until the last minute. Lucky for you, I didn’t procrastinate this year. We have four Halloween makeup looks that basically anyone can recreate. I also only spent about $5 on additional supplies that I did not already have at home. I included a range of difficulty depending on how dedicated you want to be to your look. I have included step-by-step pictures and descriptions. The looks are listed from the hardest to the easiest.

1. Most Difficult: Mermaid

I started out with my foundation, concealer and eyebrows already on. Then I took a dark green/blue eye shadow and placed it where I would normally contour, but I did not blend it out. Then, I took a purple eye shadow and dusted it around the areas where the green was. I used a silver eye shadow to pretty much cover the rest of my face.

Next, I basically took a bright pink eye shadow and put it everywhere. I put it all over my eyelids and blended out to the end of my eye brows. I also went underneath my eyes, on the inner corner and sides of my nose.

Don’t be intimidated by this next step! For the scales, I took a blue eyeliner that I already owned and drew connecting semicircles on half of my forehead, around my face and down my jaw.  Don’t worry if your circles are messy or look weird, once everything is all put together you won’t even notice.

Then, I went and added a dark blue winged eye liner. This is totally optional. I also used my darkest lipstick and topped it with a metallic gloss. You can use any color lip you want. I personally think a hot pink would look really good.

For the final touches I added pink jewels, I got a pack at the Dollar Tree. These ones were the pre-sticky ones, however, they kept falling off so I recommend putting a dab of fake lash glue on them for longevity. If you want to go crazy, you can get different sizes and literally put them all over your face. I recommend false lashes with this look.

2. Moderate: Deer

This one is my favorite! Again, I started out with my foundation and concealer. For my eyebrows I made them bushier and more animalistic. Then, I took a really orange bronzer (orange eye shadow also works) and heavily contoured my cheek bones, forehead and the sides of my nose. I also did a basic smoky eye with the same orange color.

I added a black winged eyeliner and made my eyebrows bushier. For the next step, I took a white eyeliner and did a line down towards my nose from my waterline.

For the nose, I used black eyeliner. Next, I used the same black eyeliner to draw a line from my nose to my lips. I used black eyeliner again for my upper lip, but I recommend you use black lipstick if you have it. For my bottom lip I used a white eyeliner.

To complete this look, I added white spots on my forehead and contoured. I used the same white eyeliner, again. I also recommend false lashes for this look.

3.  Easy: Queen of Hearts

If you have white face paint, start out with that as your foundation. However, since these are last minute ideas, you can be like me and use a lighter foundation that you have on hand. The first step is to completely cover your face in either your lightest foundation or white paint. You will look super creepy. Make sure to cover your eyebrows the best you can.

Next, I took a grandma-blue eyeshadow and put it up all the way over my eyebrows. Then, using a black eye liner, I drew on very arched eyebrows over my natural eyebrows.

I used a red-pink blush to contour my cheeks, then added the Queen’s famous mole.

This last step is the hardest of them all. To create her heart shaped lips, I used a dark red lipstick. I made sure to use a lip brush to be more precise. I don’t have much instruction for this; it might take a few tries to get it even and balanced. It took me three tries. Overall, this look is fairly easy and did not take me long at all.

4. Easiest: Scarecrow

This one is the easiest look to create and it’s also super cute! Like most of these looks, I started out with my foundation, concealer and eye brows already done. I took a hot pink lipstick and drew circles on my cheeks. I connected the spots to the corners of my lips using a black eyeliner. I have also seen this look done with orange or black if you want to get spooky, but I chose pink because it is my favorite color.

Then, I used the same lipstick to make my nose pink. I added “stitches” to the line connecting my cheeks to my mouth. I also added stitches to the pinkness around my nose.

I finished off this look with, of course, pink eye shadow. I took the pink lipstick and gave myself freckles. I used a lighter pink lipstick on my lips as well. Again, you do not have to do everything pink! Choose the color that fits you best.
