What To Get “Them” For Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWB chapter.

Valentine’s Day is coming up in a little less than a month, so it’s time to start thinking of what to get your SO, best friend, or even family member like your beloved pet. Not everyone has to be cuffed to celebrate Valentine’s Day. So here are a couple cute gift ideas that you can give to any person (or animal) on Valentine’s Day.

Socks/Underwear

While it might seem crazy when you’re younger to give your valentine socks and underwear, when you get older, you learn to appreciate the little things. Anyone would love a good pair of comfy and/or fun socks you can rock any day of the week at any time. And underwear could make a really cheeky (get it?) gift for your SO, or a really funny gag gift. If you or your friend has a dog that’s a Boxer, you can get the Boxer some boxers. HA! Sorry, my humor only consists of puns and word play.

Sweet Treats

Now I say sweet treats because believe it or not, there are people who don’t like chocolate. I won’t name names, but some people just don’t like it and dogs can’t eat it. So be courteous to someone’s likes, dislikes, and/or allergies and get someone a sweet treat they will actually enjoy. Don’t be afraid to ask either. And think about maybe experimenting with homemade stuff even if you’re not that great of a cook. Get some help. Cooking is more fun when you’re not alone.

Quirky Knick Knacks

When I say quirky knick knacks, I’m talkin’ fun stuff that compliments someone’s personality and their habits. For example, you can get gloves (or technically A glove) that you and your partner or family member can use at the same time, so you can both have a glove on and hold hands. This is your chance to be a little creative. You can make it yourself, or buy it from Etsy if you’re too lazy or not so artsy. It’s the thought that counts. You can make a little jar with folded up origami animals or shapes and when someone opens one, it says something you love about that person. The little things like that can really turn something quirky into something sentimental.

A Nice Date

Even if it’s not for your SO if you have one, you can give a gift card to a restaurant and/or your recipient’s favorite clothing store. This way they can buy themselves a nice outfit for the nice dinner or lunch you’re treating them to. One day at work, I found out that a customer was trying to find an outfit for his girlfriend because he was going to take them out on a spontaneous dinner date. He was so nervous and asked me and my coworker for some outfit help. That’s just one gushy and cute example, but even if it’s for your parents, grandparents, best friend, a gift like this could be for anyone. If you think they might need just a nice outing, then set that up for them. I’m sure they’ll really appreciate it in the end.

So that was a couple ideas for Valentine’s Day gifts. If you’re alone this V-Day, don’t feel so bad. A lot of people are, too. So might as well make that day about you because the most important person you should love first is yourself. Hope this gave you some gift inspiration if you are getting someone a gift. Enjoy this Valentine’s Day, everyone!
