Weekend Road Trip Destinations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Summer is almost upon us, and it is time to start planning some fun activities with friends. Before you know it, September will be here and it will be time to go back to school. Don’t let summer pass you by, plan ahead to make the most of it! Check out this list of some prime mini- vacation destinations to visit and let us know in the comments which one is your favorite weekend getaway!

Twin Cities

Needless to say, there is an endless number of things to do in the twin cities area. Mall of America, museums, great food, parks, zoos, and shopping are just a few of the possibilities! Given that it is only over an hour’s drive from Stout, you could get away for the weekend or just the day if you wanted to!

Hayward, WI

If your idea of a perfect weekend involves some unplugged time on the water, then Hayward is the perfect destination for you! Get a cabin on the lake with some friends and when you split the costs of everything, it can be quite affordable.

Chicago, IL

Although this is about a five-hour drive from Menomonie, Chicago is a great place to explore if you are looking for a change of scenery. Whether you choose to walk down the Navy Pier, see “the bean” at Millennium Park, or check out the art scene, Chicago has something for everyone!

Duluth, MN

Duluth is such a unique city to visit! Only about two and a half hours from Menomonie, it is not terribly unreasonable of a drive. Lake Superior is beautiful, and even if you are not that outdoorsy, Duluth has great shopping and museum scenes. Whatever you do, be sure to get a picture with the iconic aerial lift bridge!

Des Moines, IA

You may be thinking that Des Moines is a strange place to have on this list because there is “nothing to do in Iowa” but if you are someone who likes to go against the grain and try new things, Des Moines would be a perfect weekend vacation spot for you! Check out the famous farmer’s market, state capitol, or some of the many parks and gardens.

Wherever this summer takes you, remember to be safe, have fun, take lots of pictures, and make memories to last a lifetime!
