Tips and Tricks for Upgrading Your College Breakfast

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you gave up on school cafeteria food a long time ago. $2.90 can get you a lot of cold scrambled eggs, but it chips off a little bit of your soul every time you go in.

Ditch the Coffee

It seems like nobody in college is that far away from their next cup of coffee. Shake things up a bit and get something new into your system to start the day. You can always stop at the coffee station outside class. You can try juice, tea, milk, or even a mimosa. Obviously don’t get blitzed before Econ but live on the wild side sometimes!

Add Some Color

It’s so easy to get caught in a rut while in school. Avoid this classic blunder with fresh produce from your local farmer’s market. Fruit is also really healthy for you and will be so much easier on your digestive system than breakfast burritos three times a week.

Use An Egg Cooker

Some of us were not meant to know how to cook eggs. They may be incredibly simple, but are so insanely easy to mess up. I threw in the towel with learning to cook eggs, and opted to get an egg cooker, and I’ve never looked back. Instead of fussing with timers, mixing ingredients, or stirring, you can simply pop some eggs into these babies, and go about your business until the ringer goes off.

Get Some Carbs!

Bread is really the unsung hero of the breakfast scene. Its contributions are endless. From toast, to croissants, and rolls, it’s always coming in clutch. A side with bread is always really easy, quick, and inexpensive. It also pairs incredibly well with nearly every breakfast entree.

Leave Your Comfort Zone

Breakfast comes in all shapes and sizes. Do some trial and error to see what ingredients and recipes you enjoy, and which ones you can live without. With every new option in the books, you’ll feel like more of a fully-fledged adult! Not to mention how good you’ll be doing at keeping things fresh.

Create a Nice Eating Environment

Good food isn’t meant to be scarfed down while you’re on your phone rushing out the door. Set aside some time in the morning to prepare your food, and fruitfully enjoy it. Spruce up your space, and make it enjoyable. Listen to the birds in the morning, take some deep breaths, and take in the crisp smells.

Breakfast is undoubtedly the most important meal of the day. Do you have the tools to make it the best one yet?

Like a lot of business majors, Stephanie has a favorite Andrew Carnegie quote, and like a good communication minor, has very strong opinions on the Oxford comma. Aside from being a Stout student, Stephanie is an avid fan of Bay Area sports, Fleetwood Mac, and the amazingly perfect show Dollface.
