Meet Newly Elected Events Director-Gabby Torres

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Meet one of the newest additions to the Her Campus executive board, Events Director, Gabby Torres! Not only does Torres have a sense of humor that can make anyone burst out laughing, she’s also a very driven, focused, and incredibly kind individual who we’re lucky to have aboard the HC team.

Name: Gabby Torres

Major: Vocational Rehabilitation

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Racine, WI

HC Position: Events Director

Member Since: Fall 2014

Why did you choose to attend UW-Stout?

I chose to transfer to UW-Stout because I honestly knew this was the school for me just by checking out their website! I love that it’s not a huge campus and that the class sizes are average, so it gives you a chance to get to know your classmates and professors.

What’s your favorite place on campus?

I have two favorite places on campus. The first would be the piano room in the Hovlid basement on Wednesday nights because that’s where I recently started attending bible study with some amazing ladies from North Campus! My second favorite spot is North Point. I work there with some of the most amazing people that I probably would have never met if I didn’t!

How did you hear about HC UW-Stout?

I heard about HC at the Backyard Bash that took place at the beginning of the Fall semester!

What made you want to get involved?

Well I attended the first meeting because I won a giveaway that I entered at the Backyard Bash! If it wasn’t for winning, I don’t think I would have attended, so I am definitely thankful I won because I’ve made lifelong friends already!

What ideas do you have in store for the upcoming HC year?

I think a sports tournament would be really fun. We are also looking for different ways to give back to the Stout/Menomonie community. We have many other ideas that we thought of over the semester that I would love to carry over to the Spring semester.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Inspiration in Life: Everything I have done up to this point in my life has been because of God. Before I do anything, I pray about it and if it’s meant to be he will make it happen!

Inspiration in HC: Some of the ideas that I have are experience-based and others are just ideas that we as an Event Committee came up with throughout the semester.

SPEED ROUND:

Dream Vacation Spot:

My dream vacation spot would have to be England. The guys are usually really handsome and I could listen to them talk all day!

Favorite Color:

My favorite color is definitely gray! Although some people see it as gloomy I see it as a relaxing color.

Favorite APP:

Instagram will always hold my heart, but recently I got Yik Yak which is very interesting to say the least!

Favorite HC Section:

I would say the Health section because I am “planning” on eating cleaner next semester (we’ll see how that goes!) and the writers for that section always post really good recipes and tips. I also really like the Love section because I am a hopeless romantic like any other girl in their early 20s and the writers for that section really post good stuff!
