Meet HC’s Very Own – Kate Travis!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Name: Kate Travis

Hometown: Watertown, Wisconsin

Year: Junior

Major/Minor/Specialization: Double Major in Digital Marketing Technology, and Professional Communication and Emerging Media, with a Minor in Communication Studies.

Relationship Status: Happily taken!

HC: How are you involved on campus?

KT: This is my second year serving as the Director of Communications for the Stout Student Association (UW-Stout’s student government body), and I also edit for Her Campus!  Plus I frequent swing club!

HC: What made you want to join Her Campus?

KT: I was really looking for a way to expand my professional network, and gain experience writing professionally.  I had no idea how far it could take me, but two years down the road, I’m a part of HC’s blogging network, I edit for HC UW-Stout, AND I serve as a Chapter Advisor for eight chapters nationally.  It’s such a great and supportive community to be a part of.  I highly recommend it.

HC: If you had to pick one place to live forever, where would it be?

KT: Probably Boston.  I’ve been in love with the East Coast since I was younger, I love the city and architecture, plus I’m a sucker for good sea food.

HC: What are you most proud of?

KT: I think I’m probably most proud of how I managed to turn my freshman year on its head.  My first year, I was on academic probation and was suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder in a bad way.  But I pulled myself out of the gutter, joined HC and started my professional blog.  Now on my junior year, my GPA is climbing and I have a lot of experience to put on my resume!  That’s when I started to realize that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

HC: What is your biggest pet peeve?

KT: Sniffling classmates.  I mean you all the best, but keep your illnesses at home. I shudder just at the sound of it!

HC: What is your dream job?

KT: I don’t have an exact idea of what I want yet, but most likely something that allows me to marry my interests in content and digital marketing.  Perhaps web consulting.

HC: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

KT: When I was little, my friendly neighbor/favorite babysitter died of brain cancer.  A few weeks before he passed, he told me not to let others get the best of me.  He said that once I’ve accomplished my dreams, none of that will matter.

HC: What song gets you pumped up?

KT: “If It’s Love” by Train.  It’s just a feel-good song!

HC: What is a surprising fact about you?

KT: I don’t know why anybody would find me surprising at this point.  Everybody on Earth probably knows my whole life story already, with how much I talk.

HC: What is your most prized possession?

KT: Channing Tatum.  Jenna Dewan and Everly are just keeping him warm for me until he’s ready to confess his undying love.

Would you rather…

Live one 1,000 year life or live ten 100 year lives?

Ten 100 year lives.  I can experience more things and not outlive everyone.

Be able to read minds or be able to fly?

Read minds.  Being able to fly isn’t nearly as gratifying when you’re petrified of heights.  I can’t even jump off the stage at band practice, let alone soar through the skies.

Listen to everything but your favorite musician or listen to only your favorite musician?

Only my favorite.

Emit robot noises every time you move your arms and legs or make camera shutter sounds every time you blink?

Emit robot noises.  First of all, it would be so much cooler and way less obnoxious.  Plus, it will ease my chances of surviving the robo-pocalypse.
