Little Changes to Help You Become More of An Adult

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Being a functioning adult is really hard work. Everyone seems to have different opinions about how it’s done, and it’s so easy to make mistakes. Here are some simple changes you can make in life to make the adulting process a little easier!

Make Your Bed

Making your bed takes like 30 seconds, and can really help put your day on the right track. You don’t even need to do it in the morning; just putting your bed together before getting in it will make a huge difference!

Set Aside Your Clothes Ahead of Time

Mornings can be rough. Make them a little easier by putting together your outfit ahead of time, and setting it within easy access for the next day.

Give Your Skin Some Love

As you get older, taking good care of your skin becomes more and more important. Devote time in the morning and night to getting grime washed down the drain. Don’t forget to apply the sun screen generously!

Brush Up On Your Cooking Skills

In a world full of online ordering and food subscription services, it’s all to easy to give up on home cooking. Having a few dishes in your arsenal will really come in clutch for you now, and forever.

Keep Track of the Important Stuff

Do you know your bank account password? How about where your birth certificate is? When your license expires? Having all of this information up-to-date, and stored in a secure location can make all the difference when you run into life’s persistent challenges.

Establish Routines

An unexpected late shift at work, or a late study session can wreak havoc on your whole day; maybe even your week. Take some proactive measures by establishing consistent routines for getting ready for bed, and starting your day. You’ll be surprised at how it feels to have some control during stressful times.

Make Your Peace

The stresses of the day can weigh heavily on your shoulders. Take some small steps to mitigate this by clearing your mind and putting yourself at peace. Download a meditation app, make a playlist of soft calming jams, and reguarly look at videos of dogs and cats playing.

Take A Break

You’re not always going to find the time to relax. With classes, work, and social commitments, you can barely scrape by some space to breathe. Whenever you get the chance, take some time for yourself. Put on a girl power mix, paint your nails, and binge on guilty pleasures. You deserve it!

While being an adult is probably not going to be easy for awhile, there are ways to take some of the pressure off. Hopefully you can find what works for you!
