Give Semester One Your All

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

Midterms were just last week and I bet you may or may not be excited for planning out your semester two schedule. While doing so, I came up with some tips to make you get the most out of semester one.

1. Make a meeting if you haven’t already with your advisor. It is important to get a one on one talk about your future here at Stout and make sure you are on your way to graduate, even if you are just a freshmen.

2. Go out and meet new people. If you haven’t gotten involved in a club or volunteering option yet, make sure you make a point to see if there are any clubs that offer new members throughout the year. That way you can meet someone new that has the same passion as you.

3. Talk to your professor. Make an appointment to see where you stand in the class. Do this especially if you have no idea what your grade is.

4. Have a fulfilling breakfast. Make it a point to wake up and get something to eat that isn’t just a granola bar. Try and get breakfast three times one week and then four times the next week. I know from experience that getting up to get breakfast is hard because you want to sleep. But the fact is, is that you will have a faster metabolism and you will stay more alert in even your 8 a.m. classes.

5. Get sleep. As hard as it may be to get sleep, get as much as you can. Even if it is a cat nap during the day or studying more during the day instead of at night for when it cuts into your sleeping time. Also, put away electronics before you sleep so you don’t get distracted. Make sure you get plenty of sleep because you can focus more in class the next day.
