A Freshman’s Tips to Keep the Spring Break Momentum Going

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

For all of you Stouties out there, I’m sure that Spring Break was much needed!  Regardless of whether you went somewhere exciting or just chilled at home, breaks are a nice time to unwind and destress.  And if you’re anything like us, Spring Break just wasn’t long enough!

But there are many ways to continue the relaxation momentum as we head back to class.  Sure, we’re back to the incessant clock tower chiming and scheduled classes/homework, but there are a few minor things we can all do to relieve the stress upon our shoulders!

1. Take a little time for yourself.

Between homework and the omnipresent socialization opportunities that come with living in the dorms, we sometimes forget the importance of taking care of ourselves every once in a while.  Whether it be asking your roommate to do homework in the lounge for an hour so you can enjoy some peace, or treating yourself to a longer shower, sometimes the simplest acts will allow you to refresh and decompress.

2. Invest in all things soft and fluffy.

It may seem absolutely ridiculous, but textures can do a lot to ease stress. Wrap yourself in a soft blanket and surround yourself with fluffy pillows and let your stress just float away!

3. Get a full night’s sleep.

I know this is a foreign concept to college students, but a full night’s rest does a world of difference for someone with high stress levels.  Sleep is the best possible way to ensure your body has time to recover from the day and your brain can recharge and refresh.  It is understood that sleep deprivation and college go hand-in-hand, but try going to bed early for a night and notice how much better you’ll feel!

4. Stay hydrated.

It may sound like broken record after broken record, but so many health issues can be caused by dehydration.  Drinking plenty of water can prevent headaches, anxiety, and it clears your skin.
