The Feelings Worth Waiting For

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

So many things in life are mediocre and love should never be one of them. College can be a hard time to navigate the dating scene, but there are some things that should not be sacrificed. One of these is the surreal feeling you get when you first meet someone of interest. That rare occasion where your body fills with an equal amount of nerves and uncontrollable excitement. That feeling is one of the most treasured in the world and I believe, that if it could be bought, I’m sure most of the population would go poor. I challenge you to wait. Wait for a person who makes you feel…

…butterflies.

As cliché as it may seem, there is no denying that lively feeling of your insides flipping. The anticipation of seeing them, the delight of having their name appear on your phone, and when a new picture of them uploads on Facebook should make you feel as if youe heart is beating out of your chest. If you find yourself without excitement for this person, they probably won’t give you the experience of “falling” that you deserve.

…like the Queen (or King) of England.

Hold onto a person who goes out of their way to try to impress you. A person of substance will make you feel like the most important person in the room, simply by giving you all their attention. You do not deserve someone who plays coy with you, but will rather show you with little gestures, such as opening car doors, that they care.

…pain in your face.

That stiff ache you get in your cheeks from constantly smiling at someone is one of the most rewarding feelings. To everyone around, you may look like an idiot, but being so enthralled by someones very existence is priceless. If you are spending time with someone and they don’t entertain you, even by simply just talking, then it’s not worthwhile.

…like a work of art.

Wait for the person that looks at you like they are inspecting a precious masterpiece. The look where they seem to stare at every part of you as if to memorize every freckle and feature. The look that quickly spreads a strong blush across your face and makes you hyper aware of every move you make. You are one-of-a-kind piece of art, and they should make you feel like it.

…sensual.

That feeling of being deeply, physically attracted to someone. When they speak, your eyes watch every word fall from their lips with anticipation. You’ve memorized the color of their eyes and the distinct tone of their skin. When seen from afar you can’t help but stare at the way they walk and hold themselves. The person who is worth your attention will be as attractive to you as you are to them.

…a pull.

Every once in a while life will surprise you an undeniable pull towards a person as-if the universe itself is trying to create a connection. A person who stays on your mind the majority of the day. A person who you want see again, no matter how short the time period. A person that you feel you could tell anything to and they would completely understand, even if it doesn’t make any sense to your brain how you feel. When you are so drawn to someone simply follow your heart.

Remember that life is too short to settle for anything less than butterflies!

Allison is a girl. She likes to think she's "not like other girls" but that probably untrue.
