Fashion Trends from the Early 2000s I Still Love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Stout chapter.

The early 2000s had such fun fashion trends that I thought I would bring you back to the glory days.  Even though I was young at the time that these trends were popular, they still are some of my greatest memories.  Here are some of my favorite trends:

1. Overalls

Overalls were my favorite thing to wear as a child.  They went so well with a simple tee and were so comfortable!  Usually made of denim, they fastened at the top and were so easy to slide on. Some of them had patches or cartoon characters on them. So cute!

2. Halter tops

Halter tops were a popular clothing piece in the summer.  This tank top was tight and tied around the neck.  It was also used as a popular swimsuit top.

3. Gauchos

Gauchos were a huge craze. They were wide leg capris that were very comfortable and came in so many colors.  I swear, every girl had a pair of these.

4. Scrunchies

Scrunchies were the best hair accessory any girl could ask for.  They came in so many different colors and fabrics that you could have one for every outfit.  They were also so comfortable and didn’t pull your hair too tight.  They made for a cute bracelet too!

5. Shrugs

Shrugs were worn mostly with dresses or a spaghetti strap top with a skirt.  They came in different fabrics and colors to match anything you needed it for.

6. Juicy Couture Sweat Suits

Looking back, these things were weren’t very stylish but I wanted one so bad at the time that they were popular.  Matching the bottom sweats and the sweatshirt top made for a perfect workout look, except for the fact most women didn’t wear them for working out.

7. Mini Skirts

Miniskirts were the super short skirts that were such a fashion forward piece in the early 2000s.  There were many different styles, colors, and patterns of these.

8. Jellies

These jelly sandals were the cutest pair of shoes. They came in so many colors and sometimes had sparkles on them too.  They were the perfect summer sandal.

9. Colored Sunglasses

These sunglasses were so much fun, but not very practical.  They were mostly used to be fashionable and did not block the sun out in any way.

10. Zip off pants

These pants were so wild.  They were basically cargo pants that zipped off to make capris and the zipped off again to make shorts.  Not sure on the weather?  These were perfect for those days.

11. Platform foam flip flops

These platform shoes were great, fashionable footwear that went with anything in the summertime.  They weren’t very practical but made your outfit pop.

12. Butterfly clips

Butterfly clips were the perfect hair accessory. They added a touch of color or sparkle and  glammed up any hairstyle for a causal or fancy night out.
