In honor of Earth Day, I’m sharing some brands that have taken leaps and bounds to create more sustainable fashion. These are brands that made moves to only use organic materials and produce their items in an ethical manner.
H&M Conscious Collection
The collection was created by H&M to not only look good, but do good too. H&M made several commitments to create a clothing line that was all about sustainability. Each item of the conscious collection is made from ethically sourced goods and textiles created from recycled materials such as PET bottles. H&M has taken the initiative to improve their environmental impact by eliminating damaging chemicals and looking for newer ways to use cotton. They have also created a garment-collecting program to give old clothing new life. The clothing is collected to be repurposed or recycled for future collections.
Freedom of Animals
Faux that couldn’t look farther from it. Freedom of Animals is a line of handbags that is designed sustainably and cruelty-free. All the bags are made in 100% green vacillates located in the U.S. that practice eco-friendly methods. The faux leather is created with organic cottons and a lining made from plastic water bottles. The bags are finished with recycled polyurethane in a process that requires 70 percent less energy than it would to make synthetic fibers. The brand is also partnered with the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust who works to preserve the wildlife of Kenya through rescuing elephants that were affected by poaching. Each bag at Freedom of Animals is named for an orphaned elephant that was rescued.
This is a fashion brand whose name literally translates to “Green Love”. Amour Vert is a company that labels themselves as a brand for the 21st century consumer. Manufactured in America, the brand only uses non toxic dyes with sustainable fibers and new, innovative fabrics. They follow a “zero waste philosophy”, believing that every stitch should have a purpose. Amour Vert has also pledged to their customers that they will plant a tree with every purchase of one of their t-shirts.
