What to Wear on a Fall Afternoon Date

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

The first things that come to mind when you hear the word fall are most likely: carving pumpkins, haunted houses, apple orchards or Oktoberfest. Who doesn’t love fun weekend afternoons spent at the apple orchard or carving pumpkins with your best girlfriends, family or that special boy or girl in your life? Just thinking about how much fun and memories that can be made in the fall should make you smile. There really is nothing like it in Wisconsin when the leaves start to change, and you have to swap those flip flops and cropped tops for boots and sweaters, but I’m not complaining, because who doesn’t love whipping out those oversized sweaters, leggings and fall boots on a chilly fall morning. Here, I have listed just a few outfit ideas to wear on these fun fall dates.

1. Flannel tops.

Flannel shirts are the first ingredients to the perfect fall look. They are so versatile, and you can wear them with anything, depending on your personality and style. Pair one over a cute graphic tank with some combat boots, or wear one underneath a puffy vest for a more preppy, classic look. A flannel can also be the perfect transition piece from summer to fall by layering it over your favorite summer dress if you’re not quite ready to put those away.

2. Ripped Jeans.

Trade your old dark wash jeans in for some cool ripped jeans. They are the perfect addition to your fall wardrobe if you’re just looking for a change or a simple way to change up your normal fall look. Pair them with a loose, oversized sweater and some flats for an effortless look. Another idea would be to wear them with one of your favorite summer tops underneath a leather jacket or a cardigan.

3. Boots + leg warmers.

Nothing looks more cozy and cute than having some cute socks poke out underneath your boots. Buy some knee-high socks to wear underneath your riding boots or shorter socks to wear underneath your combat boots.

4. Scarves.

A scarf is the perfect fall accessory that can be worn on top of almost anything. Layer one on top of a jean jacket or your favorite fall top that always seems to change your look completely.

5. Hats.

Sport a cute winter hat with your jean jacket or favorite sweater. Not only will it keep you warm while your outside during the chilly weather, but you will also look super adorable while wearing it. You, also, can never go wrong with a plain old baseball cap.

6. Oversized Sweater + Dress.

Although this combination may sound strange at first, there is something pretty cute about layering a chunky sweater over a summer dress. Add a scarf or some boots with your look to make it more fall-y. It also happens to be a great way to transition your favorite summer clothes into your fall wardrobe.
