Freshman Cutie, Jena Van Marel

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

Name: Jena Van Marel

Hometown: Sheldon, Iowa

Year in school and expected graduation date: Freshman, Spring 2019

Majors/minors: I am currently undeclared with a Pre-Optometry track. I want to add a minor but am debating between Spanish, business and communication, all of which I am currently interested in.

Relationship status: Single!

What are you involved with on campus/ in the community? So far I am involved in Cru, reffing and playing intramural volleyball and the Pre-Optometry club. I hope to join more organizations and become more involved as I figure out more about what I am passionate about.

Describe yourself in three words: Driven. Enthusiastic. Personable.

What is your favorite UW-L memory so far? Based off of how many wonderful memories have already been formed at UW-L in these quick two months I cannot wait to see what these next few years have in store. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed being able to create new memories in the beauty of La Crosse, Wisconsin with a fabulous group of friends.

Dehat is your go-to pick up line or move? It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. Make eye contact, smile, and be confident in what you’re saying.

Describe your ideal Friday night: My friends and I made a freshman year bucket list with all sorts of things to help us discover La Crosse. My Friday nights include conquering something off of the list, going out and about or just hanging out with my friends.

Favorite food:  Definitely ice cream–chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, particularly. (Steak and potatoes is a close second)

Favorite song right now:Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett or “Anything” by Rend Collective.

Where are you most likely to be found on campus?  In class, my dorm, or the library.

Surprising fact about you: I traveled to Kenya, Africa, for two weeks last Christmas break to distribute 2,000 pairs of eyeglasses, which I had collected as a self-started community service project.

How does it feel to be featured as Campus Cutie? I am flattered. It’s a great way to start off freshman year.  Thanks, Her Campus! :)
